2013 MTV Movie Awards Sponsorship Recap

The MTV Movie Awards is a little different from our usual fancy Oscars and Academy Awards, with a little more hip in both the audience and construction of the show. First aired in 1992 the show has always started off with a spoof version of different popular movies that was released that same year and some artist will perform music hits at the same time. Considering that this is a movie award show, music performance was implemented as well (They pretty much took the standardized version of a movie awards and added a twist to it).

This year, the award took place at the Sony Picture Studio, with actress Rebel Wilson who starred in last year’s Comedy Musical “Perfect Pitch” hosting the event.

Notable Sponsors during the Award show was Chevrolet, Dr.Pepper, Revlon, Taco Bell, & Unilever.

Chevrolet & MTV team up to bring “Film your way to the MTV Awards 2013

Dr.Pepper featured Pitbull in its new “One of a Kind” Campaign commercials that aired during the Awards.

Pitbull grew up in a family of immigrants and followed his dream relentlessly until he finally became one of the biggest recording artists in the country. That makes him one of a kind.

Taco Bell unveiled it’s “First Kiss” Commercial During the Awards.

“Doritos Locos Tacos is said to make you do things, you have never done before” With the release of their new Cool Ranch taco,  Taco Bell walks the line between naive and vulgar in its latest commercial, featuring a teenage boy going in for his first kiss in his parents’ minivan.

There was also the Axe (Unilever) ad featuring “Teen Wolf” star Tyler Posey getting passed up for an astronaut; Revlon also ran a #CASTASPELL campaign on Twitter so that one lucky fan can win two tickets to the MTV Movie Awards. Which was your favorite sponsorship activation during the show?

What events do you plan on attending during the Tribeca Film Festival?

Brooklyn’s Weekend in Fashion

This past weekend, some of our team stopped by one of our producer’s events. It was called the Brooklyn Fashion Weekend in Industry City in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. It was an event where up and coming designers showcased their talent through idiosyncratic, eco-friendly designs and bold looks. There was even a runway show for fashionista pups!

The runway was fierce with confident swagger. The models, strutting their stuff to the beat of Rihanna’s song, “Cockiness” as camera lights flashed.

It was an atmosphere that was chic, fashion-forward and true to Brooklyn it’s flavor and communities.

Each sponsor was well personified through a logo featured on the step and repeat at the entrance, a special thank you mention before the runway show each day of the four-day event, and logo feature on the runway visible to the cameras and press.

How To Use Vine For Your Events

If you’re using Twitter for your events (and if you’re not, here’s why you should), this is something you need to familiarize yourself with, and quick.

Vine app

Launched only two weeks ago and acquired by Twitter, Vine is a new video sharing app that allows you to capture six-second long videos that continuously replay. This innovative new platform encourages creativity with the simplest of designs with only a single button.

The vine community is growing, and if you want to stay on top of your social media game, I strongly suggest that you utilize this new tool not only for your own personal use, but for your events, too.

The Sticky Factor:

  • Impressive UX. Unlike other video creation apps out there, a caveman and his grandmother can create a six-second long video almost instantly. Because it is integrated with Twitter, you can share it within seconds.
  • The simple design. There is only one button, an abstracted video recorder icon that allows you to start recording.
  • Richer than photos but short enough to deter distractions. If YouTube and Twitter had a baby, it’s name would be Vine. It limits length like Twitter, but can cut the small stuff and possess the virality of a YouTube video.
  • The power of visual story-telling. With other apps that are coming out such as Epipheo and Wick, there is no question that more companies are realizing the value that visual story-telling provides. It has the ability to touch people emotionally, mentality and aesthetically.

Now – how can you use Vine for your events?

  • Create snippets to bring your event to life on your Twitter. With Vine, you can showcase parts of your event that you really want to show-off.
  • Encourage your attendees to use Vine to share their experiences. Here’s a Vine from famous DJ  Steve Aoki tweeted during the Grammy’s. Makes you feel like you’re really there, doesn’t it?
  • Create a highlight reel to present to your potential sponsors. It’s only 6-seconds, so use it wisely!
  • Create teasers to build up anticipation as your events nears and share on your social media.
  • Use them to engage with fans using them with contests… get creative!
With the minimal amount of time and effort it takes to create a Vine, the possibilities are endless.
What are some ways you see Vine being used in the event space?

What You May Know or May Have Not Known About The 2013 Grammys

Yesterday night was one of the biggest events in music, the Grammy’s. Some of the leading headlines of the Grammy’s were: the comparison of Beyonce’s halftime show to the Grammy performances, the dress-code memo, and of course performances. My highlights of the Grammy’s were Justin Timberlake’s performance, Miguel and Wiz Khalifa’s surprise performance, JLo’s leg show, the Bob Marley Tribute, Frank Ocean’s disappointment, and my favorite Diplo and Steve Aoki drunken tweets.

Justin Timberlake’s come back to music was great, his performance was amazing as well as his new songs for his album 20/20: The Experience. He is currently working with the hottest couple in the industry, Jay-z and Beyonce. Jay-z feature on JT’s performance was not scheduled and a total surprise for even the producers. Another surprise was Miguel and Wiz’s performance of “Adorn.”

The best performance however, was the Bob Marley Tribute. The only time that Chris Brown did a standing ovation. This tribute made me want to jam out to Bob Marley all day. My biggest disappointment was Frank Ocean’s performance, it was too dull but the video on the screen sort of made up for this disappointment.

We all know that there was a memo sent out to everyone that was invited to the Grammy’s on the dress code and last night we saw who was the inspiration to that memo, obviously it was JLo. All the stars have a party at the Grammy’s, in which Diplo and Steve Aoki enjoyed. Having drinks through the show they shared drunken tweets among each other, which were pretty entertaining to read. They are now erased though.

What did you guys think of the Grammy’s? What were your highlights?
